The Tailspin Ale Fest just celebrated its 5th year anniversary as a Louisville institution. Voted number 6 of the Top 10 Beer Festivals in 2017 by USA Today, Tailspin remains one of the most popular local events. The festival takes place each year in early February at the historic aviation landmark of Bowman field and attracts brewers and craft beer connoisseurs from all over the Ohio valley region. Vintage planes, live music and scores of local food trucks help draw in the massive crowds, but the real attractions are the hundreds of regional ales available for sampling. Many of the brews are made specifically for the event and consist of limited releases, small batch runs and new recipes that insure festival goers get an incredibly exclusive experience. However, Tailspin Ale Fest supports a bigger mission than just connecting beer lovers to breweries.
Aside from the fantastic beer and free swag, Tailspin is a massive fundraising effort for the Dare to Care Food Bank. In its 5 years Tailspin has raised tens of thousands of dollars for the charity. Dare to Care is a local charity that helps fight food insecurity across the region. Many of the participating brewers put so much effort into making Tailspin a success because of the strong commitment to giving back. Tailspin has reached new heights every year and next year promises to soar even further in the years to come.
